Metamorphosis: a change of the form or nature of a thing or person into a completely different one, by natural or supernatural means.
The metamorphosis of this anthurium via this color grid was also an artistic metamorphosis for me.
I was trained in traditional black and white photographic darkroom printing.
I began this piece with my own subtly hand-colored black & white photographic print. I used the time-honored grid format to expand on this single print.
Pushing the boundaries of color in the post- production digital printing process allowed me to leave behind the confines of making the “perfect” print. Leaving behind “subtle” color revealed ever more vibrant hues along with their many subtler shades. The marks made by my hand coloring pencils jumped forward. The shifts of color and sense of movement surprised and delighted me.
This series itself is still in metamorphosis – I’m excited to see where it will lead.
